Rear Admiral Rick Schobitz

Director of Commissioned Corps Headquarters
As Director of Commissioned Corps Headquarters (CCHQ), Rear Admiral (RDML) Rick Schobitz is responsible for directing all functions regarding personnel, administration, operations, readiness, deployment, and policy for approximately 6,000 members of the U.S. Public Health Service (USPHS) Commissioned Corps. He is the principal advisor to the Surgeon General on activities and policies related to Commissioned Corps training, preparedness, activation, deployment, and total force fitness.

Chief Professional Officers are influential on matters such as recruitment, retention, and the career development of Public Health Service officers. These leaders facilitate professional and community relationships to promote engagement with the USPHS Commissioned Corps and increase awareness of the Surgeon General's initiatives to protect the health and wellness of all Americans.

Lieutenant Commander (LCDR) Abigail serves as the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps’ first official mascot. She is a trained facility dog whose mission is to protect, promote, and advance the health of the nation through the human-animal bond.
